We often blame God for our troubles, but think of how much worse we could have it.
In that day you will say: “I will praise you, Lord. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me. Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” -Isaiah 12:1-2
I want this, I want that. I want the newest iPod, or newest pair of shoes. When was the last time you stopped and sat there, and really thought about everything that you’ve been given? Sometimes, we don’t appreciate what we have. We take a lot of things for granted, and expect them to be there forever. We never realize how much we’ve been given until it is taken away from you.
God has done so much for you and has done it with joy. He has blessed you with so much, and sometimes we don’t even see His work being done. God has given you a life, a family, a home, food on your plate, friends, and everything that you value. And not even that, he’s given you things that you don’t even need. He gives you the luxuries that you enjoy. He protects you from all of the bad things that could have happened, but never will because of Him. He gives you all of the love that you’ll ever need plus more. He’s the friend that will always be there for you, always be there to listen. He never sleeps, never turns your back on you, never puts you through grief without a reason. But never once has he complained.
Praise God for everything that he’s done. He deserves it! No one could ever give him too much praise. You can praise him from the moment you were born to the moment you die, and it still wouldn’t be enough. Sing your heart out for Him, the creator of the world and of life, our mighty God who has stuck with us through all our times of trouble. Praise be to our almighty King, forever and always.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. - 1 Peter 5:8-9
Today’s passage reminded me a lot about our youth family at QBC. I consider each and every one of you a younger or older brother or sister. This Saturday, a few of us were blessed enough to go to BCI in Randolph, NJ for a youth night. Many of the people in the youth really found in eye opening and realized that they need to renew their relationship with Christ. I realized that, because a lot of our youth group left for college, it was up to a few people to step up. Many of us needed help and needed someone to look up to. And I am glad to say that during that night, I watched a few friends renew their relationship with Christ and actually take an initiative to keep up their relationship with God and keep it strong. It hit me that a few of you might need to read this passage.
In 1 Peter 5:1-5, it talks about being a good influence, both as an elder and someone who’s younger. Being older does not mean that you have to be 70 years old, and being younger doesn’t mean you have to be 12 years old. Being older means that you have had a relationship with Christ for a longer time than those who just accepted Christ a short while ago.
As someone who’s older in their relationship in Christ, you need to watch over those who are still new to a Christian life. Be a shepherd to the flock that God in trusted you with. Always be there for them, but because you want to, not because you have to. God does not want you to be dishonest, but be eager to serve Him. If you do this, when the Chief Shepherd comes, you will earn a crown of glory that will never fade away.
And as for someone who’s younger in their relationship with Christ, you should listen to your elders and those who are there to help you. Don’t be stubborn and insist that you are right, because chances are that your elders know more and can give advice that is good in God’s eyes.
Humble yourselves and God will lift you up. You can go to Him for everything, and tell Him all of your problems, because you know that He cares about you. He doesn’t want to do anything but help you out.
Be alert and of sober mind. Do not let the devil devour you. He is only waiting for that perfect moment when your guard falls and when that happens, he will attack your mind. Always look out for times that the devil can attack you, and stand firm in your faith. Remember that every other Christian out there is going through the same thing as you. Every Christian will get scars left by the devil, but you must remember that there is nothing that God cannot get you through.
There is a reward now for all of this. After you have suffered for a while, God will restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. So in times of great suffering, you know that you can trust in God that something good will come out of this. You may be left with scars, but you can use this scars to show Jesus in you to the other people and influence others.

Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching-
This verse reminded me of the relationships between the youth group. There are some times where we don’e see each other, but no matter what, we are always encouraging each other; Whether its a text message of a verse, a little pep talk, a surprise note, etc. Personally, being part of the youth has helped me grow so much in my faith and helped my relationship with God deepen. Having the chance to go to events, bible studies, devo groups. All those get togethers has increasingly helped me grow so strong as well. They have encouraged me and supported me ever since I met them. And I am truly blessed.
Last Sunday I went to Hillsong with some friends, and it has really opened up my eyes. How so many people out there are struggling, are feeling down, feeling as if they’re not good enough. But, you know, with a little encouragement and help back up…you can really change their life. One thing that the Pastor said that really sticked out to me was how even our scars tell a story, don’t hide them because every single part of your life can be used and lead people to Jesus.
But take this verse as a reminder and motivation to encourage each other, not just those within the youth group, but your friends in school, strangers, whoever. Have some friends over, or go to the cafes and do devos together. Some people even hold devo groups/bible studies at starbucks. hehe
Lead them towards love, love them the way Jesus loved us, steer them to do good deeds.
A little act of kindness can go a long way.
Words of encouragement can make a difference.
